Just out of curiosity...

How is it that shatters net is constantly experiencing these
SQL problems, and Runar manages to keep Celestial Matters
constantly up and running with the (same?) system?

Thanks, Brain-Dead

I thought CM was running on phpBB2, these SQL problems started when shatters upgraded to phpBB3.

Yes. I suspect phpbb3 is more demanding on memory. And while i don´t know what kind of hardware Chris has, it is probably one PC. The CM on the other hand is running on ibiblio´s server park, which necessarily is pretty powerful. So we can handle a lot more traffic than shatters can.

Hey, I really appreciate that explanation, Runar. That's the first
time someone has really explained the differences to me in some
format that I can understand. Again, much appreciated.

Thanks, Brain-Dead

Is it just me, or does it look like the shatters.net domain registration has expired?

In Suse 11.1 with Firefox3, a page came up that comes up when my connection is down but with Firefox 2 and Suse 10.2, I was redirected to Network Sollutions and a chance to renew the registration. Seems like it did expire. This page also noted that it may be take 48 hours to be reactivated after it was renewed.

In the meantime, you can access the Celestia Forum by using Shatters' IP address:

I am always fascinated by the "intelligent" search terms that gets assigned to expired domain pages (and of course the regular Google Adsense offering). For now, we can fill the scientific vaacum of our missing shatters with "useful" links to UFO abductions and the like :-D

It did expire. Warning notices were being sent to my shatters.net address, an account which I no longer use. I've renewed the domain for another three years, so things should be back to normal very soon.

Curiously, I got the "expired" page for scatters.net only on my Windows OS (DELL notebook), while under SuSE Linux (Desktop) I did not experience any shatters.net interrupts whatsoever!

Could anyone with "insight" explain? ;-)
