Curiously, I got the "expired" page for scatters.net only on my Windows OS (DELL notebook), while under SuSE Linux (Desktop) I did not experience any shatters.net interrupts whatsoever!
Could anyone with "insight" explain? ;-)

Were the two machines on separate networks? For example the one at the office, the other at home? If so, the dns change simply reached the one service provider before the other.

Otherwise, i don´t know - unless the second machine had cached the shatters site and you in effect saw an earlier snapshot of it. Which is unlikely, as i assume you visited the forum, which forces your browser to refresh.

I guess the explanation must be that there is some latency in the network setup of the second machine that allowed it to resolve the domain name still. I have no idea if this is in the hardware or software... If Don E. is reading this, perhaps we´ll get a better answer.

Runar,

in the (NETGEAR) router, my network operates with VERY fast switches to give the required access to the internet on demand for each member. Moreover the setup and network performance for both machines is the same and high. No WLAN involved, all via fast ethernet cable. The rwin configurations are the same as appropriate for a 16Mbit/sec ADSL line. Also the MTU is identical. The Telecom ADSL has very low latencies.

Firefox uses the Foxmarks Bookmark synchronizer, such that throughout my intranet all Bookmark URLs are exactly the same, no matter what the OS.

Proiblems started a couple hours ago.
I was replying to Don's Terraformed Mars thread and, dunno why, my message was issued twice.
When I tried to eliminate the second one, it was not allowed. :?
