Fridger, the first message of each new user is moderated by me, so there is no spam posts. Spam accounts because of it remain inactive. Once a month, I will delete inactive users from the database. This can be done more often. My technique was. Everything's under control,

Just look in your forum: there John VV has now independently criticized the abundance of bots/ dealers/... among your users. If you'd delete all these now (as we do here), then the user resonance for the new Celestia forums would look considerably weaker...

I would nevertheless advise to delete these guys NOW, otherwise you won't be able to locate the real Celestians in a month from now ;-)

Forget about web.archive.org. Firstly there are only thumbnails. Secondly there is only a small number of images. And we need not only Forum data base. We need the files! At a minimum, the folder with attachments and even a folder with avatars. Without them, I will be able to restore full forum, but no pictures uploaded as attachments, and without all the files and add-ons have been added as an attachment. The forum can display only images that are inserted earlier from photo sharing site, if they are still available there.

Done. I can not keep one for all. But Selden refused to help. Guckytos also refused. :(

Yes that looks now very transparent, yet the active Celestians are still all there.
Good!

I logged into to the "new" forum as my old id and it just worked.
Pretty good database backup.

Glad to see that the shatters.net forum is back. Thanks Alexell for your unrelenting commitment.

As i always mentioned: In my opinion it is an advantage to have two forums. One for the scientifically interested user. One for the
amateur astronomers, the dreamers, SF-fans and gamers. Which is especially important for the younger generation.
Better flying through Celestia-Space than wasting time with shooting games...

I am looking forward to Celestia.Sci...
Empirical science must be uncompromising and necessarily intolerant. Pedantic and meticulous. Seems therefore - sometimes -
unfriendly and strict.

The SF-fan, for example, do not care that the binding energy of the whole universe contained in atoms is not sufficient enough to
create a wormhole. And all the metals in our solar system are not sufficient to build an "Enterprise"-fleet ... ;)

What happens with John's posts on the new forum? All posts shows an "-- edit --" and the text is no longer available.

John,

I guess I don't need to stress that at CelestialMatters you are always VERY welcome. I seriously hope that you don't erase your posts here! We are now entering the stage of preparing for a first release of celestia.Sci. I had hoped that you could contribute some of your excellent work.

Well a separation into two forums is a possibility. We had CelestialMatters with plenty of action already when the original shatters.net was still alive. Yet a single forum has many advantages. Anyway, I now can have fun reading my 8808 posts (!) from shatters.net times ;-)

Post subject:  Re: Shatters down?

Just so you know:

  • celestia.Sci executables are 64bit builds for Windows, MAC OS and Linux.
  • We use meanwhile the latest Qt 5.7.0 (64bit) version for all three OS.
  • Some C++11/14 experiments are being carried out to achieve image / data loading in very fast multi threading mode.
  • We are currently scanning the code for subtle bugs, hidden memory leaks etc., using the latest 64bit CLANG compiler 3.8.0.
  • The heavily used Eigen library has been upgraded from Eigen 2 (Celestia SVN) to the latest Eigen 3.2.x. Eigen 2 support will cease with Eigen 3.3!
  • All well-made Celestia add-ons are expected to be supported.

So far just for a few technical features of celestia.Sci.
