Why, John?

most of such more speculative features would presumably be entered also in Celestia in form of add-ons. The latter should also run on celestia.Sci, however.

But if you guys are running away, the crucial feedback required for perfect integration of "fancyful" add-ons will be cut off...

Just so you know:

  • celestia.Sci executables are 64bit builds for Windows, MAC OS and Linux.
  • We use meanwhile the latest Qt 5.7.0 (64bit) version for all three OS.
  • Some C++11/14 experiments are being carried out to achieve image / data loading in very fast multi threading mode.
  • We are currently scanning the code for subtle bugs, hidden memory leaks etc., using the latest 64bit CLANG compiler 3.8.0.
  • The heavily used Eigen library has been upgraded from Eigen 2 (Celestia SVN) to the latest Eigen 3.2.x. Eigen 2 support will cease with Eigen 3.3!
  • All well-made Celestia add-ons are expected to be supported.

So far just for a few technical features of celestia.Sci.

Fridger

That really sounds very promising!
Thanks for the teaser. :)

I was very surprised to see the old forums brought back up. Can't help but wonder where it's going though.

My eyes aren't what they used to be... where are these executable? I've looked a number of times, never did find them.

Oh unfortunately, the executables are still only accesible to the Dev team. But it won't be long until the first beta executable will be available.
