Due to the escalating flow of people-bots (real people registering just to post spam) i have found it necessary to close auto-registrations.

New members can still create accounts, but these must be approved by me before it will be possible to login for the first time. I will try my best to catch and approve new registrations within the same day.

Thanks for your persistence here, Mona.
These people-bots are becoming a real problem, not only here, but
on every forum where I participate. Good luck!

Thanks, Brain-Dead

Hmm, "on every forum where YOU participate"... this looks like a bit of a suspicious pattern developing. (and I note that there's only one letter difference between "Bob" and "Bot"!

I'm glad Mona is pleased, however I still think there's enough screen space at the left hand side there for lets say 160px avatars, and they'd look much better!
eg.
Image
(Almost recognizable!)

I'm sure the extra server space required for larger avatars would be insignificant (especially when compared with, for example, Princeton Conformal plots. ).

-- The 80px version = 7K
-- the 160px version = 23K (less than 4x the size of the 80px)

CC,

yes, the CM server could easily digest bigger avatars, but we have unanimously decided to deemphasize avatars in order to have more natural focus on the contents of the posts ;-), and to conform with the custom graphical style of the CM site

Or phrased differently: Mona didn't leave us any choice ;-)

But if you click on an avatar, it magically becomes much bigger... Until you reload the page.

Never liked her, with that smirk on her face!

ALL CITIZENS OF CELESTIAL MATTERS, THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION!
If you would like to see larger avatars on the site, then you should make your opinion known to Mona Lisa by deemphasizing your current avatar in size by 50% to a 40px maximum.
...Or simply black it out.
Here's a blackout avatar which you may use:

Sorry, but this is an overreaction is it not?
Who really wants to see a larger Baby Fridger? Hee, hee...

Or for that matter, a larger Brain-Dead?

My wife also finds "Baby Fridger" HORRIBLE!
She thinks that I am looking slightly different and notably slightly better ;-)
