It is hard to believe.

In the last 33 days I have deleted & banned (by hand) 371 Chinese spammers who are requesting login to Celestial Matters, day after day.

They use largely random names and a multitude of providers (aliases). All write England as their (incorrect) country of origin. All the familiar spammer hunting sites have no respective records.

Runar wrote to me that the same crowd is also attacking his commercial site...

Anybody got a good idea?

No good ideas, but nice to know since the same continues to happen on the CML site. Guess who gets to remove the offending attempts at comments, etc.

Good luck here...
Thanks, Brain-Dead

Maybe try upgrading to phpbb3, since I moved my forum from phpbb2 to phpbb3 I haven't had any spammer on my forum!

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion.

Meanwhile we are at 420 hand-deleted, mostly Chinese spammers in 43 days. The daily rate went down quite a bit to way below 10/24h. I suppose this is because I am blocking as much as I can besides deleting...

IF and this is a big if
If they have the same first ipv4 #
ex.( 123.456.***.*** )
then a small entry to the httpd.conf
can be used to block the domain
but if they are from allover the place from zombied windows machines ?? you are a bit out of luck

installing and using "fail-to-ban " might work for the forum ?? but might not .
