The high-resolution version of the map is 14138x7069 pixels.

The blog post at Dr Schenk's 3D House of Satellites is worth a read also :)

PS.

I've made a quick and dirty addon utilizing this texture.
If anyone would like it, I can make it available, but I've nowhere to upload it to at present (CM doesn't allow for uploads > 512KB)

Any good suggestions for cloud storage?
I'm tempted to put it up on The Motherlode ... but, it's a bit of a lengthy process for such a trivial addon.

BTW, does anyone know the FTP address for The Motherlode? - It's not advertised anywhere obvious on their pages, although I think I did once spot it in an obscure corner of the website a long time ago, but long since forgotten in the dark recesses of my memory! 8)

EDIT: Don't worry .. found it.

Ahem... but that map maybe must be vertical and horizontal mirrored or not?...

I FTP'd it to the Motherlode.
I didn't know that you were doing admin tasks at the motherlode John. That's good, because you're the perfect person to check texture map addons for correctness (eg. alignment as suggested by Fenerit.)
The alignment seemed correct to me, but I'll leave that for you to judge.
The overall quality of the addon is certainly not to your standards, but I think it's OK for less than 1 hours work, and OK as a basic addon that can be further improved in future.
Any comments welcome. I'm always willing to learn.

Ok, gotta go and watch the All Blacks thrash the Aussies at rugby now! ... Touch wood!

Definitely worth a check since the rotationally-defined north pole is below the ecliptic.

In that case, it may be wrong as I made no special allowances for this, aside from a quick visual check to see if it matched with the original map... but this was of such low resolution (512x256) it's difficult to identify any features at all.

I checked, and it DID in fact need to be rotated 180deg ( eg. flipped vertically and horizontally).
John, please would you delete the first upload from /incoming/celestia/ and let me know. Then I'll upload the corrected version:

Sun is positive respect to JPL and logitude out of 10 degrees

Triton's map h-v flipped in SPICE default + "celestia_triton.tf":

Good agreement

EDIT LATER
The longitude of the Earth (CM) is within half a degree from the Sun and its declination is within one degree, then the Sun seem centered on screen.

Pity about the Northern Hemisphere, eh?.

... if only it was possible for New Horizons to do something like a sharp 120degree left-turn at Pluto next year. That could setup a visit to the Neptune system in perhaps 2025. (I've always been more interested in Neptune than in Pluto/Charon, but it seems to have been largely ignored since the Voyager era.)

Unfortunately, to get that sort of a sharp gravity assist from the small gravity well of Pluto-Charon, it would be required to take a suicidally close pass to the surface of one of those 2 "minor planets". (Although I suspect that at the speed NH will be traveling, even that is not feasible.)
