Yesterday night, asteroid 2016 QA2 made an exceptionally close flyby of our planet at 01:24 UTC, just hours after it was discovered. Wow!

Its estimated size is between 16 and 52 meters, averaged 34 meters. This is about twice as big as the asteroid that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia in February 2013.

At the time of closest approach , asteroid 2016 QA2 was ONLY about 84 480 km away from the Earth surface.

A slightly different trajectory would have made its integration into celestia.Sci unnecessary

Here is the calculated orbit of 2016 QA2. Via JPL Small Body Database http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi
