The nmtools package by Fridger Schrempp and Robert Skuridin
The nmtools are a set of sophisticated command-line utilities enabling anyone to produce high-resolution normalmaps for use with Celestia.

The tools are available now - for Linux, OSX and Windows, together with a detailed tutorial.
Also available is this forum, where you may post your comments.
The latest version 2.0pre2 of the Nmtools / F-TexTools is now ready to download.

Fridger,

Just wanted to give a big THANKS for providing the tutorial I found on This Page.

Is a very detailed, and helpful assistant for us Brain-Dead types, and much appreciated.
Lots of issues to deal with here, especially for a new Vista user, but I believe that you have them ALL covered.

Again, just wanted to say "Thanks" for this resource. After reading (almost all day today) through your other user's comments, complaints, etc., it would seem that a simple link to the referenced tutorial page might reduce the number of complaints and mis-understandings I saw from others during my exploration of your complete new set of tools on the CM today.

Just FYI...

Thanks again, Brain-Dead Bob

Thanks for the "flowers", Bob ;-)

Yes, I was hoping that it may be useful.

Yes. I'm new to texture mapping, and the dry, uninspiring manner of many tutorials make it tedious to grind through what needs to be covered.
Then this happened. I just learned more in the last 30 minutes than in the last 3 months.

t00fri a quick question
did the height data in that tutorial get updated from the rather old strm1 data to the strm2.1 or gmtd 2010

John,

no updates have been added. Since the point was to illustrate the effect of normal maps their actuality is not important.
