Here is the fire. I am unsure if it should have the glow or not. It looks too artificial, but... Opinions?

You can use point sprites for the glow effect

I have no experience with point sprites. Could you elaborate?

... To economize with memory, only the Launch Pad is going to be filled with smoke, whereas it should fill the entire scene in reality. However, what you see here is already some 700 instances of the "smoke ball", and most people would just get a frustrating experience trying to run anything more on their machine.

Don't get me wrong, your smoke clouds are great Runar, but does anyone know if particle system cloud effects like Orbiter (below) are something one of the developers are working on?

I am not versed in OpenGL or C++ so I assume it has something to do with it... I am not being picky, but it would make so many of the current issues with volumetric fills (nebulae, clouds, jets) easier to model... I have been toying with the idea of learning about programming to achieve this goal in Celestia, but am reticent to do it for fear that someone is already on it, and the fact that it would put me off of other projects for some time...

I don´t know, but i don´t think the devs interest are in that direction. It would be great, though, to have better tools for things like this...

The point sprites definitions can be integrated within the shuttle's cmod file

A newly added feature to the cmod format are point sprites. These can be used for a variety of different volumetric rendering effects for phenomena such as nebula, accretion disks, volcanic plumes, or engine exhaust.

Thanks,this is very interesting.
I must play a bit with this, though, so let´s see. At any rate, something to consider for future work, if it does not make it to the Buran. Must learn how to use it first.

After working on the Buran project for weeks, i could not resist playing
a little with Ye Olde Soviet Propaganda Poster, and then i
had this - made from a Celestia screenshot, of course:

Guckytos,
After examining the complex in detail, i have discovered that Linuxm@n has beat you to this idea... He has put posters there!

PS:
An update, since i haven´t posted here in a while:
The project is nearing completion. Just some finer polishing of the models remains, and final release will be in just a few days.

Runar,

you could have been a bit more specific, where on the webiste one can find it. Okay, it didnt't take me too long, but nevertheless.

Perhaps also a ggod idea would be to make a link back from this forum to the CM website, just for easier navigation.

And now I will download the Buran.

Regards,

Guckytos

Indeed that's a good idea...

Hey wait... but what a fool I am! Look at the top right corner of this page; see the orange "Celestial Matters"?
See the "The website"?
Click on it.
Here we are!
Pfff during a few seconds I though we forgot to link back to the site...
