for those that also fallow the UMSF Ceres HAMO and now LAMO threads there are only a few of the 84 hamo that really are good candidates for "Shape From Shade ".
The "icy/salt" bright spots need to be painted out and the view NEEDS to be strait down .
I also make NO claims on scientific accuracy seeing as these are NOT map projected to remove camera tilt and i have to guess on the angles .
the Heightmaps are a blend of the outputs of two different programs
one a old minimization c code for a paper and a Matlab few lines that need to be ran through ISIS3's "dstripe" ( TWICE)
the lamo-6 above is a good example ( 8 bit copies of the 32 bit floating point images )
-- the matlab code

after destripping and a HighPass

the minimization using FFT and then a HighPass ( less detail ) but better over all shading

blended and a bit of Gaussian noise added and some of the major SFS artifacts cleaned up

i am using scripts to run these and they take about 15 min for a 1024x1024 image
PART 2
importing into Blender
( there is a ton of info on the web for using a displacement map and import " images as planes" plugin )
i am using "Cycles Render" and Nodes
just the mesh , then with the texture and lighted using the same angles for the sun as used for the SFS

above i mentioned i add a small bit of Noise to the DEM
this is a good example - from "PIA20129-HAMO66"
