i think most of us are using the old th_Saturn texture and that is in need of updating

so while i am ingesting Cassini Rev:203 mapping sequence into isis3

Good idea, John, to have another go at Saturn...

For now, I am using a 2k Saturn texture for celestia.Sci that I made some years ago, when the blue Northern color became known via Cassini.

2k Saturn texture (for download):

I also made my own 4k Saturn rings from the quite recent hires data by Cassini.

Here is a global view

and here a detailed view of the high ring resolution:

Yet, notably the rings need further work, to reproduce their differing albedo, when looking from above and below the ringplane (!), respectively. A further independent requirement is to implement the correct transparency of the ring as function of the radial distance from Saturn's cloudy surface. In my case, the transparency is OK, as well as the one-sided albedo (top view). The strongly varying transparency profile of the Saturn ring was derived from hires stellar transit data taken from Earth!

John, can you post a download link for the high-resolution Saturn texture map that is in those Celestia screenshots?

Apparently, the 4k texture that you have already uploaded and the texture used in the screenshots are not the same thing.

the thumb nail links to a FULL sizer 4096x2048 image
but there is a small version displayed first but if you click on it it shows the full size
or if you just r-click and select save as
it will be a 4k image

and that 6.3 meg "jvv.saturn2.png" on imagbox IS the same map i used and do use

Well...When I use it on Celestia, it doesn't look the same as the screenshot's you took...it looks lower resolution.

Here is a screenshot that I took:

I don't think that even this is the right texture. What texture did you use in this screenshot you took?
