I had a look at the motherlode and I saw all the close up VT's there. Most are 2k. You would probably be better off if you created a 64k VT with 2k tiles rather than crop and rename all those files and move them to their right level folders.
I think it should be simple. Just txtiles the 64k bin file in level4, 32k file in level3, etc.
Code:
cd level4
txtiles 4 65536  4  2.7 < world.200408.4x65536x32768.RGBA.bin

Okay, I also had a pretty extensive search for that calculator, but it apparently does not exist anymore.
I will do as you have suggested. Thanks again for all of your help here. Much appreciated.

Bob,

that VT calculator is available for you here at CelestialMatters ;-)

Enjoy ;-)

No need, Bob, I uploaded in my FTP for you.
It's here:

http://ftp.tiscali.it/andrea_celestia/VT-tile-calculator_2.xls

BTW, why don't you upload it to Motherlode?
Enjoy!
Bye

Andrea :D

Thank you all for this piece of equipment.
Cartrite, Doctor Schrempp, and Andrea have all made it available to me.
Many thanks from the Brain-Dead. You people are the BEST!!!

As to uploading to the ML, I would be very happy to do this. Any objections?
Please PM me if so.

Again, many thanks for this additional tool. Much appreciated here. :D

EDIT: I would have to get permission from Jens in order to post this file on the ML. I'll see if I can find him.

You are always very welcome, Bob.
I obviously agree to ask Jens for the authorization to publish it in Motherlode.

friends,

please note that Jens wrote TWO versions of that calculator. I provided the latest version 2 (March 11 2004). The other one (Sep 11 2003) is still in his home directory on shatters.net.

The first one is the one I always used. But the link to the first gets redirected now. In fact, if you go to http://www.shatters.net/~jim/ , you get redirected to another site by clicking or trying to open the files folder.
This is from a former post.

There is a link to it in Selden's Virtual Surface Textures in the tools or utilities section. But the link redirects you to some other page.

This part of the link works but as soon as you click on the files folder you get redirected.
http://www.shatters.net/~jim/
This is weird. Don't what is going on.

Please note that I have both versions, and that I have found Jens e-mail address on his web site which is still working.
I have e-mailed him with a request, and will simply wait to see if I get a reply. Apparently his e-mail account is still working, because I have not received an "undeliverable" message.

Just in case you are interested, his site is still located HERE.
Thanks again, Bob

Steve,

I also noticed that strange redirection, if I go to shatters.net/~jim/files via my browser.
It's ok if I type www.shatters.net/~jim/images instead.

Since I have an account on shatters, I can also login there via ssh. That works fine.

If anyone wants version 1 from there let me know.

I can get into the images folder too. Shatters must have got hacked or something. Maybe Chris can fix it. I wonder if there are other folder links damaged like that.

Just FYI here...
I have heard nothing from Jens even though I have e-mailed him on separate occasions. Does anyone
know if he's around? Would still very much like to post the VT-calculator to the ML.

Any ideas?
Thanks, Bob

Hi,

I'm finally done with building my new system (see my signature)
and I've just started building VTs with the F-TexTools.
I'm downloading the following textures on the nasa website right now:
http://mirrors.arsc.edu/nasa/world_big/ ... 200.bin.gz
http://mirrors.arsc.edu/nasa/topography ... 200.bin.gz
Their sizes on the nasa page are respectively 2.3Go and 1.2Go.
However, they're already both larger then 4Go on my disk, and the download process is not finished yet...

Could anybody confirm these - compressed - textures are both larger than 4Go?

Vincent

Nope, they should be of the indicated size...

Thanks Chris.
I modified some options and the download process looks OK now.
