Hi everyone!

I'm trying to use the tools to generate the largest possible tiles, but I keep running into a strange problem. Here's what I'm trying to do and what I get in result:

Quote:
D:\nmtools>nmstiles 2 6378.14 86400 2.5 1 < srtm_ramp2.world.86400x43200.bin

Original size 16 bit raw elevation file: 86400 x 43200

Generating -4 resolution-optimized VT tiles (PPM format)
of size from 10800 x 10800 to 10800 x 10800 for level 2

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information
.

When I set the tile level to 3 instead of 2, it does generate the tiles, and they are readable, but for some reason the polar rows of tiles have halved width -- 2700 x 5400 instead of 5400 x 5400. Here's the log:

Quote:
D:\nmtools>nmstiles 3 6378.14 86400 2.5 1 < srtm_ramp2.world.86400x43200.bin

Original size 16 bit raw elevation file: 86400 x 43200

Generating -19 resolution-optimized VT tiles (PPM format)
of size from 2700 x 5400 to 5400 x 5400 for level 3

Why does it halve the width of tiles in polar rows? Am I missing something?

Oops, stupid me. Found the answer to the question of narrow polar tiles:

Quote:
t00fri: those narrow tiles are of course desired! They correspond to a gradual reduction of (horizontal) resolution towards the poles without sacrificing quality and for gaining speed and stability. Remember the circumference also becomes smaller towards the poles, compared to the equator!

Cool you find yourself a solution to your problem!
Anyway, Welcome!

Hehe, thanks! I've figured out everything I needed with the normal map, so please disregard the first question -- the smaller tiles will do just fine.

(Now if only I could find a good high-res cloudmap somewhere :D)
