I put together a bat file from Fridger's commands on the first page. I also put together a package so one only needs to download the data files and install F-TexTools and Gzip for Windows. Then click on the bat file. It took me about 45 minutes after 1 click and I just moved the folder to my extras and it works. The package is called 64k-bmng-texture-kit.zip and will be at my site shortly. I hope I'll get some feedback as to if it works or not. I ran it a couple of times now. I move the data files in and just one click. I couldn't make any simpler.
Note:Nasa moved their files off the Snowy Alaska site. Fridger hasn't got to updating his links page yet. The BMNG world file are now here.

Here is the code from what I called make-bmng.bat

Code:

mkdir level3

I hope so. I actually wrote that scrip for linux and then got the idea to see if I could get it to work with windows. Just a couple minor changes. Yesterday I did my 6th bmng texture with F-TexTools. I figured it was time I automated the process.

Hello Cartrite, I was going to test your bat file, but I find there the file name swbd-landmask-ver2
I searched in your web pages, but the one that looks like the right one is named swbd-landmask, dated Dec 13th.
Can you please confirm that this is the right one, so I'll change the name in the bat file?
Thank you
Bye

Yes that is the one. If you use that file, you don't have to edit that name. The bat file already has it. If you choose a bmng world file that is not February, Then you have to edit the world file name. Since there are a lot of world file names, I used the "replace" option from the edit tab in notepad or wordpad. That way you can replace all the names at once. Replace "200402" with whatever month you want.
Note*******This is already a spec map so it isn't made to use the specmap tool.

Tks cartrite.
I had clear the need to change the bmng world file name if not using the February one, and I had it already done (I'm going to use the December map), obviously using the "replace" notepad command.
Thank you once again
Bye

Andrea,
 I forgot to mention to be mindful of the file size when you download the world files. I originally wanted to do January but the file had a problem. It only downloaded 300 bytes. I checked a couple and they seemed alright, over 2 gb. I think I checked October, March, and I think June. I never downloaded the whole files though. Just enough to see if something was wrong. The browser said that those files were over 2gb. The January file was done downloading in less than a second so that one was obvious.

Thank you Cartrite, but fortunately I had already downloaded the files I need from the old alaska site, so no problem for me.
Thanks again.

I wrote a script to create a normalmap with nmtools-1.5pre1 for windows. I got my start from the nmtools tutorial and modified the commands to work with the later version of nmtools and for the Windows OS. It's called make-normalmap.bat and here is the code.
Code:
mkdir level5
mkdir level4
mkdir level3
mkdir level2
mkdir level1
mkdir level0
gzip -dc < srtm_ramp2.world.86400x43200.bin.gz | nm2pow2 86400 1 > level5\srtm_ramp2.world.64k.bin
cd level5
nmtiles 5 6378.14 65536 2.5 < srtm_ramp2.world.64k.bin
cd ..\level4
nm2half 65536 < ..\level5\srtm_ramp2.world.64k.bin > srtm_ramp2.world.32k.bin
del ..\level5\srtm_ramp2.world.64k.bin
nmtiles 4 6378.14 32768 2.5 < srtm_ramp2.world.32k.bin
cd ..\level3
nm2half 32768 < ..\level4\srtm_ramp2.world.32k.bin > srtm_ramp2.world.16k.bin
del ..\level4\srtm_ramp2.world.32k.bin
nmtiles 3 6378.14 16384 2.5 < srtm_ramp2.world.16k.bin
cd ..\level2
nm2half 16384 < ..\level3\srtm_ramp2.world.16k.bin > srtm_ramp2.world.8k.bin
del ..\level3\srtm_ramp2.world.16k.bin
nmtiles 2 6378.14 8192 2.5 < srtm_ramp2.world.8k.bin
cd ..\level1
nm2half   8192 < ..\level2\srtm_ramp2.world.8k.bin   > srtm_ramp2.world.4k.bin
nmtiles 1 6378.14 4096 2.5 < srtm_ramp2.world.4k.bin
del ..\level2\srtm_ramp2.world.8k.bin
cd ..\level0
nm2half   4096 < ..\level1\srtm_ramp2.world.4k.bin   > srtm_ramp2.world.2k.bin
nmtiles 0 6378.14 2048 2.5 < srtm_ramp2.world.2k.bin
del ..\level1\srtm_ramp2.world.4k.bin
del srtm_ramp2.world.2k.bin

I'm thinking of adding this to the 64k-bmng-texture-kit.zip. I'm still writing up the readme file though. It's more work writing a readme then it is to write the script and get it to work. :?

That is generally the case with ANY endeavor...

Most of the problems I'm seeing in my new volunteer effort involve just such
problems. How do you explain how to use this thing so that anyone can sit
down - without extra research - and USE it happily?

Can be VERY frustrating at times.

Thanks again, Brain-Dead
