That i did not do,the mesh was 362 Meg as a obj file .
Now a lower res mesh and a normal map might do
I have been working on craters , they are starting to look "right" for a non spherical body
( as long as it is not TOO non spherical) )

vesta , lots of little craters ( except for the one that shattered it ) and smooth'ish

Blender has a neat add on to make random VERY lo poly meshes - 12 to 24 vertex's
or random rocks - aprox 1 meg in size
a rand. poly and the same with the dem i used above merged

the original random mesh is on the right
