Hi all,

as promised elsewhere, let me open this forum with a "photo shooting" of two of my latest textures of the Saturn moons Iapetus (4k) and Enceladus (16k !) by means of Celestia.

The input data are directly from the
Ciclops imaging team.

As to iapetus, I added crucial new imaging data to my already existing Iapetus texture.

See how nicely the view has improved. While somewhat less rigorous scientifically, I thought I show you my more artistically pleasing version including a generated bumpmap and a specular map that displays the icy reflections beautifully:

Enceladus (16k !)
Here I spent quite some time to get entirely rid of some nasty artefacts, like a well-visible line along the joining ends of the texture. It run right across the first detail image. Have a look whether you can still make it out? ;-)

I will release these textures, when I am satisfied about their high quality. This might well happen quite soon.

Probably, I will upgrade to a 8k version first...

Enjoy,
Fridger

Beautiful. I am going to have to invest in a new graphics card to enjoy these Fridger.

My card (ATI 9700) won't handle anything above 2k either :(
Even ATI x2600 reportedly has a 4k limit (on Macs anyway).
I suggest going with one of the latest nvidia cards, like say an 8600 or 8800gts
(Check first to see if they're compatible with your motherboard though...)

Keep them coming Good Doctor...

If I live long enough, maybe we'll get the whole Solar System realistically
in Celestia. I probably won't though live that long though. Laotian pizzas
be damned! <grin> BTW, I CAN view the 8k textures now, so Nyaa, Nya...

Sorry, couldn't resist. Doctor Schrempp knows that I used Celestia on a 1994
Gateway PC for 14 years all told. My new HP is STILL giving fits of "Wow!"
